Slutty Hearts is a fun, swoony-dark-pop quartet from Portland, Oregon, who make songs that make you wanna dance and get it on. With music equally charming and DIY in nature Slutty Hearts cut and paste the best elements of lo-fi garage rock. It’s gritty, it’s raw, it’s sexy, it’s a bewitching vamp of simplicity – like sucking out the venom of an ex lover in a heart break hotel.
Since 2007, Slutty Hearts’ sound and performance dynamic has evolved from a shoe-gazey dream-folk duo into an eclectic, upbeat rock-n-roll crunch-pop sound. In December of 2012, the band added a fourth member-Joey Bewley on drums allowing Marisa Laurelle to evacuate her dual role as drummer/singer to focus on her prowess as a frontwoman. She still keeps some seductive percussion tricks up her sleeve at live shows – smashing a tambourine on a ride cymbal – between dance moves. Very quickly, their sound matured and found new strength and fury.
At their roots Slutty Hearts is a tongue-in-cheek dance party for those who are always going to remain young at heart. The quartet sings songs that can turn you on, break your heart, or make you think of all of the things that are fucked with the world with a slight slap of humor.
Their sophomore album, “Bones In The Snow”, is set to release in Autumn 2013 on vintage formats, vinyl (self release) and cassette (Cassingle and Loving It Records).
“If there is a renaissance of ‘60s-style garage rock bands happening in Portland right now, the Slutty Hearts are the sexiest…There is a hint of cabaret or strip tease in their lo-fi, organ sound, but with the sweet vocal-style of indie pop. ” – Performer Magazine
“Slutty Hearts’ crazy sense of humor and catchy brand of dark-pop coerces you to sing along. Their sweet, retro-pop is delivered through a punk filter, like a gritty Best Coast, a poppy Velvet Underground, and a cynical cabaret rolled into one. -SSG MUSIC
